How to Hire a Quality Home Inspector

Whether you’re on the buying or selling end of the real-estate market, you understand the value of hiring a home inspector you can trust. You make some pretty major decisions based on what the inspection report says, so you want someone who knows what they’re doing. But how do you know a top home inspector from one of the mediocre ones? Let our team at

Bryan & Bryan Inspections help with these hiring tips.

1. Remember that recommendations are your best friend. If you can gather firsthand recommendations from friends, family, and coworkers, do it. You can get a better picture of what the home inspection covered, how thorough it was, how long it took, and so on when you have a friend who is willing to talk. Take note of positive referrals, and make a list of inspectors you want to research further.

2. Don’t rush into hiring anyone. The real estate market can move very quickly, but that doesn’t mean you need to get swept up in it. Take a few moments to make sure you have hired the right inspector so you can be confident in your next steps.

3. Consider more than price. Many people are tempted to hire the inspector who is the cheapest. However, the cost of the home inspection isn’t a good indicator of how thorough it is, what’s included, and whether it’s what you need. Take the time to view a sample report if you can, and ask plenty of questions beyond “How much is the inspection?”

4. Read the reviews. Your realtor may recommend a particular home inspector. Even if you trust your realtor, take the time to read through the home inspection company’s website, and check out customer reviews. You aren’t obligated to use your realtor’s top pick, so make sure you feel comfortable before moving forward. Hopefully, these tips will lead you in the direction of a quality inspector who’ll get the job done right. If you’re buying or selling a home in the greater Houston area, be sure to keep Bryan & Bryan Inspections on your list of potential inspectors.
