The home-buying process can be quite grueling. You’re ready to complete the home inspection
and move forward so you can finally get the keys to your Houston home. But then you get your inspection report back from Bryan & Bryan Inspections
. If you’re a first-time home buyer, the document may be longer than you anticipated, or you don’t really know where to start or what to do with it. Let us help.
Here are a few tips for reading through your inspection report and what to do with it when you’re done.
1. Take the time to read it thoroughly.
Don’t rely on your realtor or even your spouse to read through the entire report. You need to do it, too. The more eyes you can have on it so you can ask questions and be on the same page, the better. Reading may not be your thing, but you want to make sure you know everything you can about your investment before making it final.
2. Start on the summary page.
If you’re overwhelmed by all the details, flip first to the “Summary of Deficiencies” section. You should be able to find it after the cover page. This summary section will help you know the big picture before you dive into all the details. It will also help you know which sections to pay attention to so you can determine whether that issue is one worth pursuing with further negotiations.
3. Ask questions.
Our home inspectors work hard to take detailed notes and to include pictures for your reference. However, if something isn’t clear, then don’t be shy. Be sure to ask any questions you might have, especially before you head back to the negotiating table.
