6 Ways to Prevent Pest Infestations in Your Home (Part 2)

You don’t have to worry about invading bugs or irritating pests inside your home if you take precautionary actions. Bryan & Bryan Inspections shared three tips for preventing pest infestations in your home in our last blog post. Today, we’ll be sharing three more tips to keeping those critters out of your home for good.

4. Throw Away Garbage

There’s nothing more appealing to pests and insects than household trash, both inside and out. Prevent these vermin from entering your home by picking up all litter in your yard. Keep a tight lid on your garbage can as well. Inside your home, pick up all household waste and dirty dishes every day. Wash and dry all dishes, appliances, and counters too. Insects love leftovers as much as they love garbage.

5. Clean Sinks & Drains

Sinks and drains are also optimal locations for crawling irritants as they are filled with food, grime, and debris. Make sure you routinely clean the drains of your home including kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks, and laundry drains. You can do this with materials you already have at home like baking soda and vinegar. Pour both of these materials down your drains. The foaming action will flush out any clogs or debris.

6. Securely Store Food

Another area often invaded by pests is the kitchen pantry. Any open food containers are like an open door to bugs and rodents. The best way to avoid this is to store open food in sealed plastic bags or containers. It may also be a good idea to regularly clean out your pantry and look for any spilled food or harboring insects.
